Christmas Card 16 - Herne the Hunter
The Twenty-First century is not a great time for Herne the Hunter. Once he was the master of the rolling grasslands on either side of the Thame. But now he – and his deer – are increasingly penned in by the sprawling mess of the suburban South-East with its “Executive Developments” and “Business Gardens”. In many places, the only parks remaining are “Retail Parks” with their saccharine apologies for life and excitement. The very air has been corrupted and the trees are stunted and diseased.
The Twenty-First century is not a great time for Herne but he is not constrained to live in any particular moment simply because it is “The Present” and, whenever there is a full moon, he slips back to a better time where his green spaces cover the land and where he and the Great Stag can hunt and be hunted as they always have.
Christmas cards - many from people who you had decided not to send cards to this year and who will now get "guilt" cards which arrive late.
