Fine art down to a tea

A sculpture made from teabags is causing quite a stir in our small town of Bridge of Allan.
 
Its several weeks since I got a phone all from my friend Sue Horne to ask if I would join her army of volunteers collecting used teabags.
 
I must confess to being somewhat sceptical when she told me of her idea – a giant angel made from teabags.
 
Well, it’s turned out to be sensational.  People are literally gasping when they walk into St. Saviour’s church and see it for the first time her  - an 8ft angel composed of more than 3,000 teabags.
 
Few art works can evoke that kind of response.  And technically Sue does not see herself as an artist rather an enthusiastic craftsperson.  No matter. What she has created is quite astonishing.
 
By tapping into the resources within the community – volunteers and teabags- and harnessing the two she has created a work of art, which we can all identify with. Tea drinking, after all, crosses so many cultural borders.
 
And it’s all in aid of a good cause, Aid4Syria, a project set up by Syrian doctors at our local hospital.
 

Several newspapers are carrying the story today and tomorrow it’s the turn of television.
