Jazz Band

Yesterday afternoon, my colleague Paul and I drove down to Chippenham to stay with my friend Mark where we enjoyed some good wine and a very tasty curry. The trip south was to enable us to be in Thetford for ten o'clock this morning for a meeting with a client.

It transpired that we had quite a lot to talk about at the meeting as there was a fair amount of new work, which was a very pleasant surprise. However, this did mean that we didn't get away until 2pm and I needed to be back in Kirkby this evening for a school concert in which Dan was playing guitar with the Jazz Band.

It was all fine for the first couple of hours but then it became dark, which, combined with a persistent rain, brought out everyone's bad driver. As we sat in sporadic queues, I watched the ETA on the satnav drift back and, in the end, once I'd dropped Paul back in Morecambe, I didn't get to Kirkby until after half -eight. Fortunately, Dan's mum had sent me a message to say the Jazz Band was on last, so I was reasonably confident that I'd still get to see Dan play.

I slipped into the hall just as the band were coming on and, happily, my friend Chris had saved me a seat right by the door. Thus I was able to enjoy excellent renditions of 'Georgia On My Mind', 'Topsy', and a very well executed version of Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition'. I even got to see Dan and Abi in the corridor afterwards for a quick squeeze :-)
