More Ladybirds

Until this week the ladybirds have been twospotted. I blipped various stages in their cycle three days ago. Today there were just as many elevenspotted ladybirds (Coccinella undecimpunctata) on the Angelica flowers.

There was also a surprise visit from a New Zealand native orangespotted ladybird (Coccinella leonina). This one is glossy black, with 16 orange spots. It was very active and tricky to capture as it beetled among the flowers and seed cases.

These photos are not to scale. The black one is noticeably larger than both the two- and elevenspotted ladybirds. As the Angelica flowers and seeds vary in size they are not a guide to relative size of the ladybirds.
