Campeones Otra Vez
We watched the Euro 2012 final in a bar down on the seafront at Albir with a cosmopolitan crowd consisting of mostly Spanish with a mixture of Norwegians, Germans, British, Lithuanians, Russians and a few Italians thrown in for good measure. A great friendly atmosphere during and after the match with the Spanish, and just about everyone else, celebrating the victory on the streets with firecrackers, flares, horns, cars and scooters. As with every celebration in Spain it was loud. The party will go on until the wee small hours but we have work in the morning. I've been lucky enough to live in Spain during a time when the national football team have won 3 international football titles consecutively. This is a world first and will probably never be repeated. I could wait a thousand lifetimes before witnessing my own nation Scotland winning an international trophy so I have to live vicariously off the Spanish successes. Commiserations to my Italian friends and especially to Giacomo in the USA. Italy were a joy to watch against Germany but tonight they came up against perhaps the greatest national football team there has ever been. ¡Viva España!
