Picturesque ruins

After all the bad weather of the last few weeks, it was an amazingly warm and fine day for a walk with Andy, Chris and Martin plus Bonnie and Bruce, on Saddleworth Moor, via a fantastic viewpoint, high above Dovestones Reservoir to the Pots and Pans rocks, a frankly underwhelming site where erosion has created bowls in the top of some gritstone outcrops, said to resemble cooking equipment.

On the way, we made the sort of navigational error that only happens on fine days.  At a turning point, near another derelict building, we said "oh this is obviously the path" and strode along it for about a mile before realising we were heading South East not South. On a misty or rainy day we would have carefully checked map and compass first. Happily, we recovered in time to have some wonderful pies and pints at the most friendly and hospitable Church Inn.
