On guard

Fido spends a lot of time outside.  We have what should be a dog flap, but is actually simply a "dog hole" in our back door.  He goes out that way, but often seems to forget that he can also come in the same way - quite apart from the fun of getting us out of our chairs.

Once out, he then spends much time guarding the steps, between our lions, barking at goodness knows what.  When we are around we try to keep the patio door open as much as possible, but sometimes it's just a bit too cold even for us!

Last time I picked him up from the kennels, the owner was quite concerned that he spent so much time outside, lying on the concrete, when he could be lying on a nice comfy bed - I tried to reassure him.
