Moment by moment I watched in fascination as this NZ Red Admiral Butterfly emerged from its chrysalis.

For a complete overview I have added a set of photos - starting with the first split in the chrysalis shell to the butterfly hanging while the wings complete the unfolding and filling process and dry before its first flight.
