Ferruginous Duck(Aythya nyroca)
The Wetland Centre is teaming with birds at the moment and this is a Duck which I've never seen before and is globally threatened. It's sometimes called the 'White-eyed Duck' and you can see why, it is also called the Ferruginous duck for its rufous brown feathers-obviously! It's a diving duck so one minute it's there, the next minute it's gone and it can stay underwater looking for food for a very long time. A lovely surprise sighting & photo!
