Shining a light

I'd been fairly sure all week that today I'd be blipping from the Mountain Festival - but this morning a friend sent me this video on Facebook - it was done with good intent - but it both inspired me & unsettled me for a lot of the day; bringing back memories of losing Mum - the journey since. As ever I went climbing to settle myself & then into town which is slowly filling with climbers, there's a tangible buzz in the air.
In the video, which I'm sure many of you have seen, the husband of one of the Paris victims tells her murderers, in the most inspiring way imaginable, that they have not & cannot win. To be able to see that, so clearly - so soon, fills me with admiration - it took me years to arrive at the wisdom of what he says, longer to learn to live by it.

I'll spend the next few days presenting, watching & socialising at the Festival (so forgive me if comments are infrequent)  - in the heart of the extended family that is the mountaineering community - for an often solitary soul it's one of the few gatherings where I'll know dozens & dozens of people - and reflecting on Antoine's wise words - we'll go about our normal lives, we'll laugh, admire & inspire - there's no place for hate in the world.
