Safe Return

I went, with Andy, Chris and Martin, for a long and soggy walk in Staffordshire's Moorlands today. So wet and windy that few of the photographs are worth saving.

However, we parked in the small village of Calton, where I spotted this unusual war memorial. One often sees memorials to those who died serving their country in wars.  This one does that but also gives thanks for the safe return of those who served and survived. Reading the memorial, I was struck by the fact that four surnames appear both on the list of those who survived and those who did not. Shattered families, no doubt.
