Silence for Paris
I was in Brussels today at a meeting of the CIVEX Commission of the EU Committee of the Regions discussing subects on an agenda that became all too topical after the events in Paris. Some of the subjects discussed had a terrible resonance after the horrific attacks in Paris and included; how can we prevent radicalisation; supporting integration; the refugee crisis.
In the meeting itself we joined the minute's silence that was taking place across Europe to remember those murdered by terrorists while enjoying an evening out with friends and family.
Outside and not too far from where we were meeting, police raids were taking place in the area of Brussels where one or more of the Paris attackers is believed to have come from.
Security has been stepped up and there are armed soldiers evident in the streets and in particular outside the entrances to buildings.
