Penpont

A sunny morning! So D and I decided to go to his favourite teashop in Penpont, near Thornhill. It's also a Post Office and I had some parcels to send (including my camera for repair). We had coffee, read the papers and browsed the secondhand books before setting off on a walk around the village. The light was just right for taking some photos...

Penpont is only a small village  but has a large Gothic Revival church with a tall spire, unusual for this area. It was the birthplace of the African explorer Joseph Thomson and is home to the artist Andy Goldsworthy.

The war memorial was made by the Glasgow sculptor William Kellock brown in 1920. It lists 41 men killed in WW1 (about 10% of the current population of the village).
