North of Sihanouk

Sihanouk Boulevard is a central artery of Phnom Penh and it sort of divides the city into north and south sections. I spent most of my time in the south when I lived here and avoided the seedier northern part which includes the riverside and nearby backstreets where all manner of things go on. This pic looks decidedly tranquil but there is not much tranquil about the girly bars where poor young rural women come to make money in the city and the expats shuffling around at death's door from multiple addictions. A remarkable range of characters.
