Niko Pirosmani

This week we went on a field trip to Blue Gallery, Tbilisi, and we learned about Niko Pirosmani and how he would paint on black canvas since he could not afford fancy paper of white canvas. In class we each tried to recreate one of his paintings. I picked this one because I was sure I couldn't mess it up too much since it was simple and also because I was fascinated with the fact that the giraffe is black and white. I enjoyed painting on black instead of white because it gives a totally different feel and perspective. It's actually quite hard to blend the colors in together, at least for me because I am used to trying to make them darken whereas on black you have to try to make them lighten but not too much.
