Two conversations.

Girl "Mum is that man a foreigner?"
Girl's Mum "If we weren't in Japan we'd also be foreigners"

My Daughter "Why do people say that I'm half?"
Me "Because you have parents from two different countries and they use that word to mean that.  Some people think it's wrong but if it doesn't bother you then it doesn't bother me"
Daughter "Doesn't bother me but where do they think I'm half from?  Here?" said while drawing imaginary lines across her torso horizontal then vertical.

The mum's answer was very refreshing.
My daughter's question was a little more worrying but it seems she's got a better handle on it than me.
