A different world

The drive from the South today was in perfect weather conditions - mild, bright, calm. Then we reached the A66 and climbed over Stainmore and it was a very different picture. We were soon into cloud, mist, rain, wind. It was wild. Stainmore often seems to have a climate all its own. I have driven along the A66 and watched rain turn to snow, clear skies turn to fog, calm turn to gales. It can be quite scary late at night and no one else around. 

This was taken at one of the highest points - around 1,460 ft. It's a good thing those cows are the hardy Belted Galloways that originated from the windswept moorlands of South West Scotland!
