Larnach Castle
I went to my first castle today! Larnach Castle is located on the Otago Peninsula and was owned by William Larnach, an entrepreneur and politician in colonial New Zealand. The castle's construction began in 1871. Sadly, the family eventually self-destructed. The castle walls held so many secrets and lies, and it all became too much. The castle was sold in 1906, and it was bought by the Barkers. They restored it back to its former beauty. The furniture is not original to the castle, though, because all of it was given away in an auction when the castle was sold. I personally love historic houses, so this was a treat for me. I loved learning about the family drama and about life in colonial New Zealand.
