Frilly Fungi

It was another damp day today but after missing a walk yesterday I was determined to get out today. I was away all morning but by the time I got home it wasn't raining.

We headed back to the woods and sure enough - it started raining just as we got there!  We were mostly protected from the rain by the trees but it was pretty muddy underfoot from the rain in the last couple of days.  I found this log COVERED with this beautiful 'frilly fungi'. I'm not sure what it's really called. Anyone know?

I kept trying to TELL Mum that it was going to be too muddy in the woods. I do love the woods, but REALLY!  I'm only a little poodle and unlike Mum I don't have wellies for my feet!  I could see what was coming and sure enough - I got scooped up to the bath as soon as we got home!  NOT my idea of fun!  I told Mum that maybe this should be the last walk in the woods until spring?
