Girne (Kyrenia)

Today we drove from Pafos, through the Troodos mountains and across the "green line" into the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus.

On the way, we stopped at the lovely mountain village of Lania (Laneia.) There, we visited the gallery of Northumberland-born painter Michael Owen (insert here obvious joke about former Liverpool and England footballer.) There were other artists too.

We later arrived at the North Cyprus town of Girne (Turkish name) or Kyrenia (Greek name.) The lovely harbour will be explored more thoroughly tomorrow. We had a tasty Turkish meal at Kibris Evl, from which there were great views of the harbour.

We are staying at the most luxurious hotel in the town, where excitement is guaranteed tomorrow.  A letter, pushed under our room's door, promises that "fumigation will take place throughout the Hotel."  Apparently "treatment being used is of the highest quality and harmless to health. We apologize in advance, for any inconveniences caused." So, that's OK then.
