Happy days for the Nuthatch

A long busy day in front of the PC today - but another step forward for a couple of projects - hopefully building me some time to get out tomorrow.

During my staring out the window thinking time I was quite fascinated to watch the Nuthatch - I've been putting nuts in the seed feeder simply as we are out of seed - but it empties really fast - today I saw why. The Nuthatch swoops in - takes a whole nut - and then flies off - in these pics to the top of the fence post - which he then uses as an anvil to break up the nut at his leisure - this proves much more rewarding in terms of quantity - that chipping pieces out from the normal wire nut feeder.

I've see this behaviour from woodpeckers quite frequently with nuts in their shells - but never from these little fellows.
