Happy New (farming) Year!!
For a shepherdess such as myself putting the tups (rams) out with the ewes marks the beginning of the farming year. Today husband and I gathered in our main flock of ewes from the hill. As you can see Pip, Breagh and Shaw were on duty.
Every ewe has been given a mineral bolus (a lozenge they have to swallow that slowly releases essential minerals for the next 6 months) especially important to be given as our land has a deficiency in copper, selenium and cobolt.. They also got a dose of fluke/wormer and a footbath. They have also been marked to show which tup they are with, a lot of dots and dashes and trying not to get confused with it all!! All complete and the ewes in separate lots in the lowland fields.
14c 5mph s sunshine all day.
