C is for.......
The Bridgewater Canal basin at Castlefield.
The Bridgewater Canal was opened at Castlefield in 1765.
It created a link between the Duke of Bridgewaters coal mine at Worsley and the centre of Manchester.
At Castlefield Junction the canal linked into a stretch of the River Medlock that had been incorporated into the canal and used as the basin for the canal wharves.
The Rochdale Canal also passes through Castlefield.
Many of the warehouses built around this basin are still standing.
Merchants warehouse is to the right on this photo.
C could also have been the Cathedral or one of Manchesters many Churches or Chapels, Canal Street in the gay village (we have more than one gay in OUR village ;-), or Cheetams school of music!
Looks lovely and sunny dosen't it?
By lunchtime it was pissing it down raining!
