New York Halloween
This elaborate display is at townhouses on East 8oth Street, near Fifth Avenue. We had just been to see a recently discovered statue almost certainly by the great Renaissance sculptor Donatello (1386-1466). It is in wood, which Donatello rarely used. We were early at the gallery where it was displayed, and had it all to ourselves in a spacious dark room--a striking sight.
Afterwards we went to the Met, mainly for a marvelous exhibition on Egypt's Middle Kingdom (ca.2030-1650 B.C.). Then we headed home, stopping on the way for a leisurely lunch with our friends Marge and Steve. (More links tomorrow--I'm heading for bed, after watching the Mets lose; they are now down 3-1, one game from losing the World Series.) And the New Zealand All Blacks beat Australia in the final of the Rugby World Cup (which we didn't see)--no surprise there.
