Winning Moment
This lunchtime I was one of the judges for the Youth & Philanthropy Initiative S2 competition at Dunoon Grammar, along with Brendan O'Hara, and Argyll & Bute Education Head of Service Anne Marie Knowles amongst others.
I knew nothing about the YPI before the event but it seems a very interesting and useful scheme that encourages young people to hone not only their presentation and research skills but also their social conscience and sense of community engagement.
There were six finalists in this , the first YPI completion that Dunoon has staged. All were highly creditable and it was a hard job to choose the best. However the "Dunoon Link Club" team were absolutely outstanding and in particularly in their choice of, and performance of, a very affecting song.
I managed to take this from the judge's table at the very moment the two girls who had made the presentation discovered they were the winners.
Their delight at winning £3000 for the Link Club was palpable.
