Oca, and Chinese Artichoke..
..some of my more "unusual" vegetables..
The Oca vary in colour, yellow, red and pink here, but I have white ones too. The Chinese Artichokes look like dragons claws to me.. Just right for some "scary veg" for halloween!!
All have a crunchy, radish like texture, crisp and moist. The Oca taste of lemons, while the artichoke has very little flavour.
Been sorting calendar stuff again, have some more sponsors finalised, but still waiting a few responses. I then carried the hoops for the polytunnel down to the site, four trips carrying 3 half hoops each time. G was harvesting the broccoli while I was doing this. And I had to put a hoop together and lift it up to see the size of them!! Hands got filthy, and I probably have a mark on my neck too!!
Then down the bottom to complete the harvest. Parsley, coriander, chard, salads comprising mustards, mizuna, and mibuna. Some mixed salad leaves, and these oca and artichokes.. Pulled out some Chinese cabbage and salads that have gone to seed, a wheelbarrow full, and wheeled up the road a few crofts to feed N's pigs. I'm told they're off to.. well, where pigs go, so this could be their final supper!
Eggs to deliver later, and I might call into the pub for a pint, or a few..
