Day of the Dead
A shrine to Dia de los Muertos, which the Mexicans celebrate every year on the first day of November (day after tomorrow). We're in a Mexican restaurant this evening, Gabriela's, which had its modest beginnings at the foot of our block on West 93rd, when we lived there in the 1990s. It's now larger and fancier, but the food is still quite good (though a couple of my favorite dishes are no longer on the menu.
We drove down from Massachusetts this morning. Our outing this afternoon was to the Neue Galerie on 86th Street at Fifth Avenue. It's a small but choice museum with an Austrian/Germanic focus (e.g. seven superb Gustav Klimts currently on view). The special exhibition was Berlin Metropolis: 1918-1933 -- excellent, but demanding, with many small pieces (photographs, collages and other works on paper). Very specialized, but I loved it.
