Te Anau
Today was one of the last free days, so a couple of my roommates and I decided to go to the Te Anau Glowworm Caves. We had to be at the Real Journeys place at like 8:15 because it was a 2.5 hour drive to Te Anau. Our tour was at 2:00 pm. I got to see things I hadn't seen before since I didn't get out of Queenstown much. Along the way, our bus driver let us out so we could take pictures. Once we arrived in Te Anau, there was time to look around and eat some lunch. The town is pretty small, with the population reaching just under 2,000. On the boat over to the caves, I learned that Lake Te Anau is the largest lake in the south island of New Zealand. Also, the water is so pure that you can drink it straight from the lake! Te Anau means "cave of swirling current." This name is fitting since there are so many caves along the lakeshore. The Glowworm caves were unlike anything I'd ever seen before. When I looked at the ceiling, it twinkled like there were stars up there except they were worms! We ended up getting back pretty late that day, but I don't regret that day trip one bit! I would definitely recommend the Glowworm Caves. It's worth it!
