As Autumn moves towards Winter
It’s that time of year where people living in this part of the year play a game of chance with the weather.
Around now we change from summer to winter wheels so we can continue to drive when the snow and hard frosts arrive. But when will they arrive? (Last year it was the 22 October!)
Summer tyres are quieter, give better mileage and are better for the environment too, so you want to keep driving on them as long as possible.
On the other hand you don’t want to be changing four wheels in a few inches of snow with more coming down all the time, nor do you want to be looking down a glazed hill early one morning when there something important at work, wishing you’d changed tyres last weekend!
Fortunately we can compromise as we have two cars, so today I changed the wheels on the small car. If conditions suddenly call for the studded tyres then it’s the Picanta we’ll be driving.
However the ten day forecast promises no frost, no snow, and warmer than usual (up to 12° C) temperatures. So it’s probably the CEED that will get the most outings.
