Ellis Island

Wet today!  
Been in Apple Store on 5th Avenue which was where this was first posted from. Managed not to buy anything.  We got absolutely soaked today.  All our clothes are drip drying in our room but it doesn't matter as we've had a great time.  I love New Yorkers.  What great people!  A man spent about 5 minutes with us this morning explaining the intricacies of the subway system and making sure we got the right ticket!  Everyone is so helpful and polite .

This shot is of the Registration Hall.  A very moving place. We did Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty on a little boat packed to the gunnels.  Maybe that's how the immigrants in steerage class felt!  Only saw a small part of what there was to see.  The extra is one of the beautiful windows in the hall.  I suspect the immigrants did not really appreciate the beauty - maybe they enjoyed being able to look out after travelling in such poor conditions on the boats taking them to their new lives.

Still finding the subway fairly incomprehensible and will avoid it if possible!  Hope it's a bit drier tomorrow as we are due to go up the new One World Tower.
