Floating
I ventured onto the minitrails behind the house today for the first time since spring. It was hard to even recognize the paths that we had cut, and I couldn't remember the best way down to the big pond. And it's deceptively marshy - so much so that I accidently walked into the water. Ah well. So, lonely as a cloud, I floated by my haunts of the springtime - the broad-winged hawks' nest, the piliated woodpecker's hole, the old bean patch and both ponds. It's very pretty down there, but quite wild.
Tomorrow we head west for a week or so of wildlife spotting in the hills of South Dakota. I'm not exactly packed, but there are several neat little piles surrounding my suitcase. Good enough I think.
