Justice for Sheku
After work tonight I headed to a Public Meeting organised by our local EIS branch committee for the Justice for Sheku Bayoh campaign. It's a tragic story and an absolute scandal that police lied to the family on at least four occasions regarding the circumstances of his death before the truth came out. One of the main speakers was Sheku's borther in law Adeyemi Johnson and if not for his experience of dealing with teh police they may never have got the real story.
I also think it's an outrage that former justice secretary Kenny MacAskill has stepped in treating calls for a proper investigation into the circumstances of Sheku's death as if it is a personal affront on his creation of Police Scotland rather than the regionalised forces. The fact he has confidently predicted there will be no charges despite police apparently blatantly lying to the family on at least four occasions does not bode well for a proper and impartial outcome.in my opinion.
I really hope the family get the answers they are seeking and if, as seems likely, there is someone culpable they are brought to justice.
