Working hard in the nectar factory
After yesterday's blip of a hoverfly on an ox-eye daisy in my garden, I was out there again this evening after work and managed to take this photo of a bumblebee on a blue Centaurea flower, again on my phone camera. I used a bumblebee identification guide produced by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and I think this is a (female) worker of the species Bombus terrestris, the buff-tailed bumblebee. I love both the colour and structure of the flower and that the resolution is high enough to show both the bee and flower to be speckled with pollen grains.
