Derwentwater lake shore

A funny old day, but very good nontheless. Walked from the house into Keswick, calling in at Booths for a 2 for £6 coffee and scone. The scone was a bit of a disappointment but quite edible.

Our walk today took us along the shore of Derwentwater until we met the road, then up through the Great Wood and eventually to Castlerigg Stone Circle and back down into Keswick. When we neared the Circle we completed the 1000th mile of the year, the second time we'd met this target and over 2 months quicker than last year.

The stroll along the lakeshore was the best part of the day, the sun came out briefly, the clouds and lake looked beautiful. Hoards of geese were being fed just here and were disturbed by a dog, all taking to the air amidst where we were standing. Quite a sensation of flapping wings and large bodies going everywhere.

Castlerigg was interesting and you could see why it was chosen as a location for whatever purpose the ancient people constructed the stones. I'm not sure anyone really knows and the information boards were suitable vague.

A quick walk back down into Keswick and a late lunch. When we emerged from the cafe the weather had clamped right down, with a dank drizzle. The others did some shopping and window browsing while I went to fetch the car.

In the evening we drove to Ambleside to meet Alan and Irene for dinner at Zefferelli's - a vegetarian Italian. A very good meal and a great evening out. When we finally turned out the weather had turned extremely wet, particularly coming back down into Keswick.
