Hokitika Gorge
First thing this morning we drove to see Lake Kaniere and then carried on to photograph Dorothy Falls (see extra), which involved a very slow gravel road.
From there we went on to Hokitika Gorge (main blip). This was well worth the difficult drive. The water here is bright turquoise, as it is fed direct from the glaciers. There was a swing bridge over the water here which wobbled rather a lot as we crossed it!
From there we returned to Hokitika for lunch and a quick wander around the town and a visit to a photographer's gallery.
After lunch we drove on to Franz Josef Glacier, stopping at Lake Ianthe and another turquoise river just before Whataroa. We found some lovely old columns from a ruined bridge (see other extra).
After checking in we went for a wander around town (spoiler: it's quite small and full of tourists!) and had some dinner.
