Sparkle
Today's big operation was a submental flap to repair a NOMA defect on a young woman. She had complete trismus (unable to open her mouth at all), unable to speak and the only way she could eat was to post soft food through a small hole in her cheek. She came to the hospital with her husband and tiny daughter. They are from the Gambella region, in the south west of Ethiopia where there are many Sudanese refugees, and the people are very tall and thin with beautiful dark skin. I loved her sparkly blue nail polish - we may not be able to speak the same language, but some things are universal!
