They Say....
.......you need at least a week in New York.
That's so you can figure out the subway system.
It's challenging to say the least. Just when you think you have got it they have this cunning trick of bunging on an express train which flies past the station you were planning to get off at.
So we did a lot of walking today, mainly in the south of Manhattan Island. We walked halfway across The Brooklyn Bridge (along with about half a million other pedestrians and some demon cyclists), visited Ground Zero which we found very well done and moving, and took the Staten Island ferry past the Statue of Liberty.
This evening we ventured back onto the subway and made it to the considerably more upmarket West End for dinner with Ron and Judith in their apartment.
Fortified by a good meal and fine wine we set off back to the East Side with increased confidence and success.
So much so that we hung around for about half an hour listening to subway musicians en route. No need to purchase expensive tickets to a Broadway show.
