Diary of an Edinburgher

Andalucia Day Six

Today's three hour tour of the Alhambra has certainly hastened the requirement for new knees by a couple of years! Mind you, this was then followed by a two hour lunch on the balcony of a restaurant overlooking the town. It was most pleasant. Especially when I got the heavy metal yelly muzak changed to more appropriate Spanish guitar music.

The Alhambra is completely amazing. Our guide was very knowledgable, and I believe he's written books on the subject, speaking his native Italian, Arabic, Spanish and of course English. But don't ask me to repeat any interesting facts about it... We also had a walk through the gardens, then a (looooong) walk to the hotel for lunch. Thankfully, we were mainly in the shade, as it turned out to be rather a hot day.

A well earned nananap in the afternoon, then a wander up the road to the Flamenco venue. And what a treat that was! There was an amazing guitarist, a singer, a woman dancer, and a young chap who was a David Beckham lookalike (without the tats). They all had their moment in the spotlight, and the woman was fantastic! She seemed to go into a trance, and her mascara was running down her face by the end. Her (fairly hefty) legs were fair whizzing! The young chap was also amazing. We were told that we were allowed to take photos in the last bit, and after all that anticipation - can you believe it - I didn't have my settings right and had to fiddle around and missed my chances. Grrrrr!

On the way back to the hotel, we had a wander down a wee lane, and came across the most eccentric wee bar - it was completely covered in posters, pictures, key rings - any religious memorabilia. Every spare inch of it! And the music blasting out was of the local Easter procession. A red wine and tapas of grilled ham on toast was served by one of the two old chaps who run the place. We found Steve, the tour guide, perched up at the bar. He then moved over the road for some excellent fish tapas. He seemed to know his way around...

If we thought Seville was terrific, Granada is even more special!

Apologies for my lack of comments. Too tired!
