Grass Bay

We went to one of my favorite places in Northern Michigan today. Where water and land meet and mix in mossy forests, cattail marshes, and low sandy sloughs that drain out to the big waters of Lake Huron.

Unusual plants and animals call this place home. Carnivorous pitcher plants and sticky sundews; migrating monarch butterflies and rare nesting birds like piping plovers. Big leeches, frogs and snapping turtles congregate in the marshes, while beyond the lake mirrors the blue of the sky and you can walk out for nearly a mile on shallow sandbars.

This is a place to wander and lose yourself in wonder.
