Captain Scott Antarctic Memorial, Cardiff Bay

This memorial, sculpted by Cardiff artist Jonathon Williams was unveiled by the Princess Royal on June 6th 2003 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the "age of Antarctic discovery". Captain Scott had docked at Cardiff in his ship the Terra Nova to finish preparations and to take on supplies for his ill fated journey to the Antarctic. The memorial represents Scott hauling himself towards the South Pole, whilst you can see the faces of his colleagues trapped in the snow. Its surface is covered in a mosaic of white and near white tiles which is said to represent the desolation and grandeur of the Antarctic ice and snow. I still cannot decide as whether or not it really appeals to me. I would be interested to know what other Blippers think.
