Baker Wetlands

A new bypass road is being constructed south of Lawrence. The western half of this road was completed many years ago. The eastern half construction led to years of discussion and litigation because the proposed route ran through some wetlands. Finally the road is nearing completion. The road still runs through the wetlands which belong to Baker University. University personnel have done an outstanding job of mitigation and the resulting wetlands are obviously going to be far superior to what we had previously. Some good really has come out of all this. A new visitor center has been built, which is a great addition.
