Day 3

We were up at out at 530 am to go to Batsinda to meet the kids who are homeless and sleeping in holes in the ground. Archie and Callum had found these kids when they were here in July and ComFort Rwanda have been working hard to get them sponsorship to get then into housing, feed and cloth them and if sponsored they will stay school in January. We were taken through some back alleys, tight dirt tracks and then came out into what looked like barron land. David was with us, he is formally a street child himself, he has been feeding the kids 4 times a week and was able to show us where they sleep. We first came across a very young boy about 7 years old sleeping with a big dusty blue coat over himself. At first it looked like something you would see on TV and I had to stand back to try to understand what I was seeing. I picked up my camera, almost to put some space between myself and reality and clicked almost in a journalistic fashion. I told myself that we need to share these pictures and show the world this is happening here in Rwanda. Having walked through the rough ground we settled by a pond the kids use to wash in. 27 of them sat very patiently as he handed out bread bananas nuts and boiled eggs. The amazing thing was they didn't grab or steal from each other, they shared and made sure they all had enough. Callum who is the director of comfort Rwanda ( not sure if that's his proper title but he is the Main Man) is out here with us and has been looking for a house for the kids and yesterday after a lot of hard work he found one. Throughout this week we will be ćollecting and building 11 sets of bunk beds buying mattresses and painting the house so I will keep you updated throughout the week in the progress. This is where your fundraising money has gone and I thank you so much that these kids can reep the rewards. If you would like to sponsor a child let me know. £20 a month isn't much when you can physically see the changes you are going to make to these kids life. Todays picture is off the Batsinda street kids.
