Birmingham New Street Station

This station has had a major makeover in the last few years and was formally opened on 20th September. It seems like a shopping centre than a station with its exclusive John Lewis store and stores of other major chains. 

Extra has a close up of the ceiling with the exposed pipes. Not sure about the design and the rationale - whether they ran out of time or materials, or was this design intended :)?
