Porticos
After a frenetic few weeks, we arrived in Bologna last night pretty exhausted. We haven't had a holiday of more than a week for more than a year, so this break is pretty welcome.
We knew very little about this city, but now we know .......
It has a very large and very historic centre. Lots of palazzos and churches.
Within the centre there are 34 km of porticos - covered walkways. And another 15 km outside the city walls.
It has been run by the communist party since 1945, and has a reputation as one of the least corrupt places in Italy.
It has one of the oldest universities in the world (1088 AD), and 80,000 students.
It seems wealthy, and incredibly clean. I have seen one piece of litter all day (it is in the blip !).
The weather has been grey all day, with drizzle for some of the time. But who needs an umbrella when you have all these porticos !
