The Call 1914

At the Cenotaph today there were three of the last four survivors from World War 1. Henry Allingham (aged 112), Harry Patch (110) and Bill Stone (108).

Harry Patch had something interesting to say. He was called up in 1916 and fought at the battle of Passchendaele. His verdict was "it was not worth it, it was not worth one, let alone all the millions who died". Sobering thought from someone who lived through the worst of it and maybe a comment on the society that we've ended up with?

This is the figure from "The Call 1914" in Princes Street Gardens.
