Up amongst the clouds
Not having flown since 6th September it was a delight to be able to get up in the Beast!! Wx was a bit grotty in the morning so I opted to be pax for the leg up to Sywell for the ‘Radial & Trainer Fly-in’. So whilst on top of the hazy murky lower down I opted for a cheesy selfie!! On arrival at Sywell we did what all good pilots do and opted for a mug of tea … and breakfast!!
Nice to catch up with a few aviation mates and their flying machines but the wx wasn’t brilliant so stopped a fair few from coming over. The Spitfire was there doing flights for a lucky few who had booked along with the Harvard and a pair of Tigermoths.
We headed off to Duxford early afternoon to meet up with another couple of aviation friends and this time I flew. Was tricky spotting the airfield through the haze and from the opposite direction to which we normally approach and after weaving about the final approach track (grass runway … hard runway … ooooh back to grass!) I managed a decent landing (always a bonus!!).
Collected a beautiful handmade personalised wedding cushion (see extra photo) from friends unable to make the wedding. Had a craving for Victoria Sandwich and a cuppa (always have to have a cuppa at an airfield!) … only to find the café had no cakes at all!!!!! More Tigermoths, Dragon Rapide and another Harvard flying so plenty to see. Bumpy flight home into more hazy wx and the game of ‘Where’s the airfield’ before another respectable landing (I’m getting the hang of this now!) and putting the Beast to bed.
Tonight we went out for a family meal to celebrate my dad’s 20th wedding anniversary. A lovely end to the day
