Fishing Rod Recovery

Wow what a great day we had in the kayaks.

The warm sun and cool breezes made paddling a joy.

We paddled up Falls Creek at the top end of the reservoir as far as we could go before being stopped by rapids.

Being new to fishing from our kayaks, we provided the fishes with some fine comedic entertainment.

I must admit that is a bit of a trick to cast accurately and retrieve gracefully while seated with one's butt 4 inches below water level.

Kathy was extremely chagrinned to bobble a cast to the extent of dropping her whole rig overboard (the rounded kayak deck is unforgiving). Yikes!

It was in the middle of the creek channel and way too deep to consider more than blowing it a kiss good-bye.

As we continued our paddle up the creek Kathy suggested that the floating lure she was using might come up from the depths to mark the spot allowing her to pull all the line off the reel and then pull the rod and reel up to the surface.

My Kathy is brilliant, but I thought this was a very long shot indeed.

When we came back down the creek, after an idyllic interlude, we searched diligently for the 2 inch fishing lure.

Lo and behold, Kathy spotted it. I secured her boat to mine and maintained our station over the spot while Kathy pulled in 200 yards of line.

She suddenly said, "I can feel it down there... It's coming up!"

And then there it was. A successful fishing rod recovery effort. Kathy is sooo cool!

We didn't catch any fish, but we had a heck of a good time hauling in our fishing gear.

The fish had a great time too. They'll be telling this "humans" story to their fry for years to come!
