Wentwood Reservoir

It's been a beautiful sunny day and ideal for getting an aerial picture. I needed to test out a new battery for my quad-copter so headed for Wentwood Reservoir as it's quiet.

Wentwood Reservoir is a Victorian 42 acre site situate off the A48 between Newport and Chepstow, near Penhow  (The nearest postcode is NP26 3AZ).

Wentwood and its surrounding areas are popular with hillwalking and mountain biking enthusiasts and the Wentwood Reservoir, opened in 1904, is a centre for trout fishing. The area is also home to thousands of wildlife species. These include 75 species of bird.

The blip photo shows virtually the whole reservoir overlooked by Llanmelin Iron Age hillfort (4BC - 1BC) which has stunning views over the Bristol Channel. There is a car park for Wentwood Reservoir and to walk the hillfort - it can also be  accessed via Llanvair Discoed (itself and ancient village) which has a lovely country pub called The Woodlands Tavern and open all day that does good food and drink.

Also in the picture is the reservoir pontoon and boat pier, and a couple of boats being used by the Wentwood Flyfishing club. The reservoir is controlled by Welsh Water.
