The Last Tattie Pick

Dad enjoyed his garden and greenhouse.  We dug up the final crop of his potatoes recently.   Scrubbed up now, I'll make my favourite leek and potato soup. 

This has inspired me to think about giving it a go myself at some point.  But I don't know what to do, how to prepare the ground, when to plant etc. Would a raised bed be a good idea?  Advice most welcome.
