Horse riding in the Elqui Valley
We were greeted by two 70 year old Chilean men and our two horses, none of whom spoke English! Even though neither of us has any experience with horses, we managed quite well to get on the horse and to steer and stop with our old man friend yelling "perfecto!" at us. We rode our horses through the valley, up and down hills and across small creeks. The vegetation was dry desert with many cactuses and pretty flowers. Cam's horse was well behaved, while Jess was always behind as her horse kept stopping to eat grass and refused to trot when asked, only trotting when Cameron and his horse did so and left us behind. It was a glorious 2 hours and we loved every minute of it. We enjoyed lunch in the nearby town of Vicuna, followed by cheese and wine in the afternoon. For dinner we met with Jess and Claudio, our Swiss friends from the Salt Flats and enjoyed a beer and pub food.
